Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to buy a diamond over the internet from McGiverns?
-
We are a not an internet company, we are a brick and mortar, family owned business that has been in the same location for over 30 years.
Please note the A+ Better Business Bureau seal on every page of our site, you can verify with them we have had no problems.
Also, feel free to contact the Perrysburg Area Chamber of Commerce or our numerous online reviews. If you pay via major credit card,
you are protected by the issuing bank against virtually all types of fraud.
-
»
Why are you so much cheaper than my local jewelry store?
-
McGiverns is primarily wholesale. We sell to other dealers, other wholesalers, as well as direct to the public. Because of our extremely
high volume, and low cost of doing business over the internet, we can pass these saving along to you.
-
»
Are your diamonds enhanced or treated in any way?
-
McGivern does not sell treated or enhanced diamonds. They are 100% natural. It is illegal to sell these diamonds without full disclosure.
-
»
Do you charge sales tax?
-
Unless your order is shipped to an Ohio address, we do not collect sales tax. Like any other mail order company, we are only obligated to
collect sales tax for the state where we have a location. We are confident that you will voluntarily pay the appropriate sales tax to your
state government if due.

Why is a GIA diamond grading report so important?
-
Allow us to explain about certificates. The simple fact is all jewelers cannot sell the same diamond for the best price, but they still must
make it appear that way. Thus many other certificates exist that are far from accurate, and it appears you are getting the same grade diamond,
for much less money. In the end, the real question is, just because some certificate states the diamond is a certain grade, will GIA agree?
Most likely not, thus these other certificates can be discounted quite substantially, depending on how inaccurate they are. Nothing wrong with
buying a certified stone that is not GIA, as long as you understand this, and pay accordingly. It is also ESSENTIAL that you get the original
certificate with the diamond, not at a later date.

How can I pay for the purchase?
-
We accept Mastercard, Visa, Discover, American Express, as well as bank wire transfers.
Please notice on the diamonds it is 2.50% cheaper to pay via bank wire. We have to pay the bank this percentage to accept the credit card,
by using bank wire, we can pass the savings along.
-
»
Do you offer financing?

We offer Bill Me Later financing via Paypal. They normally offer a 6 months same as cash option, as well as longer term payment plans.
Paypals' offerings vary. Check the Paypal site for current options. To use this Bill Me Later option, just add the items to your cart,

-
We have over 1,000 photos in our online catalog of rings. If you purchase diamond and ring from us, setting and sizing is done no charge.
-
»
Are 14K rings available in platinum, and vice versa?
-
Regardless of how they are shown or priced, virtually all items are available in 14K yellow or white, 18K yellow, or platinum.
-
»
What are the advantage and disadvantages of white gold versus platinum?
-
Platinum is generally more expensive, about $400 more per ring than white gold. It is more durable in that it will not wear out as quickly as white gold,
however platinum will actually bend and scratch a bit easier. Platinum will keep its steely white color forever, where white gold will tend to "yellow"
a bit. Platinum will also have more of a matte finish, and white gold a bit more of a shine.

What is an ideal diamond cut, and how important is this?
-
»
Do you ship internationally?
-
We ship to most counties, however please email to confirm this and to get shipping rates. Most range from $75 to $125 via Fed Ex.
Please note you are responsible for any import duty/tax, which I would verify with a local customs official. Any import charges
must be paid by you to customs upon arrival of the or they will not release the package.
-
»
Do you offer any long term warranties?
-
As we are primarily wholesale, and are not in a position to inspect the items on a regular basis, and thus do not offer
long term warranties. We suggest covering the items via Lavalier Insurance, whom we have found has the best customer
service and rate. You can also cover items on your homeowners or renters insurance. In most cases they insure against
loss, theft, damage, etc.
-
»
Do you offer insurance?
-
We suggest covering the items through Lavalier Jewelry Insurance - you can get a quote online right
through our website. You can also purchase from your homeowners or renters insurance. We recommend Lavalier Jewelry Insurance, as
they generally offer more complete coverage, at a better rate.
-
»
Do you do appraisals?
-
We have gemologists (GIA) on staff, and offer insurance appraisals at no charge on items puchased from us. Just request this when ordering.
-
»
Do you offer upgrades?
-
We are always happy to take your diamond in trade, however again, as we are primarily wholesale,
full value is not guaranteed. Every stone is different, but in most cases you
can expect around 80% of value for natural diamonds.
-
»
Do you offer trade ins, or buy diamonds?
-
We only accept GIA certifed stones. Fax a GIA cert copy to us at (419) 874-8431. You MUST include a note stating you want a trade in price,
or a buy price, and include your email address. We will email a quote promptly.
-
»
Where are you located, and can we come see the diamonds?
-
As for coming in to our store, prices listed are internet only. As I am sure you can understand, we cannot afford to offer retail service, and
give internet prices. We are more than happy to help as much as we can over the phone or via email, however if you feel more comfortable spending
some time with a jeweler, and looking over a selection of stones, I would suggest a local jeweler, as the prices in our retail store are significantly
higher, due to the higher cost of doing business this way. If you just want to make a quick trip in to pick up the stone, that is welcome at the
internet price, however an appointment is a must, and you will be charged sales tax. Also, if you would like to narrow your choice to 1 or 2 stones,
and would like to come in, again, this is fine. Keep in mind the diamonds are kept in a safety deposit box, and the rings are all made to order -
we do not have a sample line on display. At any given time we only have 50 to 100 rings on display.
